Desert Jewels to go into camp …as NN appoints Hamata as SG

The national senior women’s netball team, Desert Jewels, is expected to go into camp as they prepare for the upcoming African Championships that will be held in Botswana in November.

Despite the information being sketchy at the moment, Netball Namibia (NN) said the tournament will be held in Gaborone from 26 November to 6 December.

According to NN, the games will serve as ranking matches, where countries will get their classification evaluated.

“The team is expected to go to camp this coming weekend (Friday) for two weeks. They are gearing up for the upcoming African Championship games in neighbouring Botswana sometime in November. At the moment, we are not sure how many countries will be taking part in the competition, and we are waiting on Netball Africa to confirm the official number of countries that will be travelling to Gaborone to participate in the tournament,” she said.

Meanwhile, the association also revealed in a statement yesterday that they have appointed Isack Hamata as their new acting secretary general for six months.

Hamata confirmed his appointment via a statement, saying he was excited to assume his new role.

“I am wholeheartedly committed to the national interest and the advancement of  NN’s administration. I believe that with a collective effort, we can work towards enhancing the federation’s efficiency, fostering a collaborative environment and ultimately promoting the sport of netball on both local and international platforms,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rebekka Goagoses, the president of NN, extended a warm welcome to Hamata, saying, “We are thrilled to welcome Mr Hamata as our acting secretary general. His dedication to the development of netball in Namibia aligns perfectly with our federation’s goals. We believe that with Mr Hamata’s leadership and the support of our talented team, NN will continue to thrive and succeed,” read the statement.
