Gunners close in on league title

With only a few matches remaining before the MTC Netball Namibia Premier League concludes, Mighty Gunners over the weekend tightened the screws on their campaign to win the competition.

Gunners commenced their weekend winning streak on Friday against Tigers (47-41), and on Saturday convincingly defeated Namibia Navy 50-38. On Sunday, they beat 45-28.

Speaking to this publication yesterday, Gunners’ representative Desire Namases said winning all weekend matches was a huge step in the right direction towards their goal of winning the league.

She, however, said they won’t be comfortable, but work hard until the final whistle will be blown on the final day this coming weekend.

“We stuck to our game plan of winning all our matches and fulfilled our goal. This weekend proved that we are doing the right thing in our quest for the league title,” she said.

“But we have told our players to not get excited because it’s not yet over. We will remain grounded and work extra hard so that we can achieve the goal on the right day,” she noted.

In other weekend matches, Afrocat Lions suffered a narrow loss to Otjozondjupa Nampol by 46-47, while Namibia Correctional Service (NCS) beat Otjozondjupa Nampol by 53-30.

Tigers thrashed relegation-bound Grootfontein by 60-13, and Afrocat Lions continued with their bad spell on Saturday as they fell short to Rebels by 39-41.
