Hammer murder accused trial in October

A Windhoek resident, accused of viciously attacking and killing his wife with a hammer, will take the stand to answer to the allegations in October.

Making a return to Windhoek High Court last week, Inock Mazala Nalisa (32) was informed the court has scheduled to hear his case from 31 October to 4 November, and again on 14 November. During his appearance, Nalisa was also informed his lawyer, who was newly appointed by the Directorate of Legal Aid, is Vernon Litubezi. Nalisa is expected to stand trial on the charge of murder read with the provisions of Domestic Violence Act. The prosecution is alleging Nalisa killed his wife Petra Minikonzo Nyakwambo (30) by stabbing and hitting her with a hammer at the back of her head following an argument, according to court documents.

The wife died instantly at the scene.

The incident occurred at the couple’s residence in Windhoek’s informal settlement of Okahandja Park on 30 October 2020. According to police reports, after the tragic incident, Nalisa fled the crime scene. He, however, later handed himself over to the Wanaheda Police Station two days after the incident. He has since been in police custody, as the State strongly opposed his release on bail pending the finalisation of his case.

Nalisa is currently being held at the Windhoek Correctional Facility at the trial-awaiting section.
