//Kharas rocked by another toddler killing

KEETMANSHOOP – Following the death of the one˗year old boy, allegedly at the hands of his mother at farm Buckholzburn in the Bethanie area, another four˗month old girl was discovered in a shallow grave at farm Swartberg in the Karasburg district earlier this week.

The baby was allegedly killed by her parents late last year.

//Kharas Police spokesperson Nicodemus Mbango, who confirmed both gruesome incidents, informed New Era it is alleged at this stage that the couple conspired to kill the baby and afterwards buried her in a shallow grave.

“Information at hand indicates that the employer (owner of farm Swartberg) noticed the disappearance of the girl and he confronted the couple about it, who responded that they sent her to relatives in the north,” said the police chief.

The deputy commissioner continued that people living close to the two suspects observed them behaving strangely and reported it as such to the police.

“Investigations were lodged accordingly, which led to the discovery of the remains of the deceased toddler in a shallow grave,” said Mbango.

He added the couple has been arrested and detained at the Karasburg police station, while investigations continue.

“The remains have been ferried to the Keetmanshoop state hospital for an autopsy, and the suspects will soon appear in court,” said Mbango.

The police chief also said two police officers from //Kharas Nampol’s serious crime division were involved in a motor vehicle accident on their way to farm Swartberg to investigate the criminal case.

“The driver of the vehicle, a male sergeant, lost control of and overturned the vehicle on the gravel road between Karasburg and the scene of crime,” he explained.

Mbango continued that the sergeant was admitted at the Karasburg state hospital with head injuries, whilst his passenger, a female police constable, has been treated and discharged from the hospital.

The names of the suspects involved in both cases cannot be announced until such time they appeared in a court of law.
