Seasoned racehorses Starlile from Okahandja Racing (OHR) and Freedom Fighter from Ovitoto Racing’s (OVR) continued their dominance at main races in the country after their triumph in the just-ended Okakarara Bash on Saturday in the Otjozondjupa region.
The two horses recently won top honours at the July Winter Cup competition, organised by the Khomas Turf Club in Okahandja.
Starlile was followed by Earl of Cardigan from Otjinene Supporters Club (OSC) in second place, whereas Eamon Freygang’s Able Surprise claimed the third spot in the 2 200 meters (m) of imported horses in A Division.
In the Nambred A Division of 1 800m, Freedom Fighter was challenged by Bright Eye from Epukiro Racing and Aminuis Racing’s Lady Diamond in the second and third places, respectively.
Among other sprints, Professor Supporters Club’s Mr President emerged victorious in the combined 1 600m of maiden and graduation Nambred horses, followed by
Filka of the Mutjavikua family in second place, while Cut the Corner from OSC settled for the third position.
Black Beauty from OVR claimed victory in the 1 000m of Nambred maiden horses, while Otjinene-based Call Me the Headline was crowned champion in the same distance of thoroughbred horses.
WT Racing’s Hurry Up emerged victorious in the 1 000m of the Thoroughbred category horses.
Okahandja Racing’s spokesperson Otis Kotjipati said Starlile is a quality horse with experience.
“Its dominance is characterised by the efforts of the jockeys and managers in terms of maintenance and training,” said Kotjipati.
Freedom Fighter’s owner Uaraa Tjiho said his horse is getting old, but he still trusts it can bring results based on the way they are currently taking care of it.
“It is an experienced horse, and this victory means a lot to me and the Ovitoto Racing Club, as they are always responsible for the horse registration fees,” said Tjiho.
