Keetmanshoop
President Hage Geingob continues to seek advice and proposals on how to resolve issues affecting the Namibian people.
Mukwaita Shanyengana, who is the special advisor in the office of the vice-president, met with elders and veterans at Keetmanshoop last Thursday to discuss the issues affecting them, as well as to discuss the challenges facing the Namibian people at large.
The meeting was aimed at coming up with suggestions and possible solutions to problems, which will then be forwarded to the office of the vice-president.
Speaking at the meeting Shanyengana thanked the elders for keeping peace in Namibia by accepting the policy of national reconciliation after the liberation struggle, and for ensuring the country had peaceful elections since 1990, saying they have been a good example of patriotism to the youth.
He reminded them as elders that it is still their responsibility to ensure all is well in the country, adding that as people who went through thick and thin they have the necessary experience and wisdom to lead the youth by example.
He explained that elders and veterans should know that for everything which goes well in Namibia they will be praised and if things go wrong they would equally be blamed.
“People will ask why do they allow things to happen like that? Where are they? What are they doing?” he stressed.
The elders presented their problems and possible solutions and as expected the same issues that the elders complained about when the president was in the region last year surfaced.
Most elders complained about the high prices of food, calling for price regulation especially in the rural areas, lack of water, ablution facilities and long queues at hospitals.
Some elders urged the government to look into the high municipal rates and called for water and electricity to be subsidised.
The consultation with the elders is taking place in all 14 regions
