OMUTHIYA – Former members of the Rally of Democracy and Progress (RDP) rejoined Swapo during the public rally at Omuthiya over the weekend. Leading the group was former RDP central committee member for Oshikoto Region, Moses Amukoto, who told the crowd they were happy to rejoin Swapo.

Another former RDP member is Hilya Kamati, a resident of King Kauluma, who said she joined RDP in 2007, but “things have not been going well for us thus we decided to come back and build our country in unity.”

“RDP is a failure and their manifesto went down so I see no need for Oshikoto Region to have so many political parties, we are now new members of the mighty Swapo and have decided to follow the party which is growing big,” says Kamati.

They were received by Swapo vice-president Dr Hage Geingob who thanked the new members for realising the importance of the ruling party. “Home is always home, even if you go far away you still have to come back and rejoin your family with peace,” Geingob said when welcoming the new members.

Geingob stated that the Swapo Party manifesto does not contain empty promises but outlines what the party itself has done for the past 24 years and what they plan to do in future, bringing economic emancipation to the people, prosperity and propelling Namibia towards further development.

Geingob added that Swapo is the only party with the experience and political acumen to tackle problems affecting the nation.

“If there is somebody out there saying the government has not done anything yet, let the police officers arrest him and take him to jail because there is no truth in that. People must learn to tell the truth and thank the government for playing a crucial part in their lives,” said Geingob.

Geingob promised that the Swapo Party-led government would concentrate more on fulfilling the needs of the underprivileged and vulnerable members of the society by bringing relief to them through the implementation of various existing and new social relief programmes. He urged all voters to vote for Swapo because it is the only party that is willing to fight poverty.

The Swapo Party regional coordinator for Oshikoto Region, Armas Amukwiyu, who spoke at the rally which thousands of Swapo members attended, said in Oshikoto the people are ready for the election. “We are patiently waiting for that big day so that we go vote come 28 November,” Amukwiyu said.
