Road caution urged during Nujoma proceedings

Road caution urged during Nujoma proceedings

The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund has urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution on the roads during memorial services and street processions for Founding President Sam Nujoma.

The Fund, in a media statement yesterday urged pedestrians to avoid running across roads or standing too close to the road during the activities.

It also emphasised the importance of following directives from authorities.

“With the year-to-date increase in road accidents, injuries and fatalities by 21%, 17.4% and 51.2%, respectively, the fund appeals to motorists to adhere to speed limits, avoid reckless driving and exercise patience on the roads during this time amid heightened traffic movement throughout the country,” it said.

The fund further urged the public to contribute to road safety and prevent further incidents, and called for road users to honour Nujoma’s memory by driving responsibly and show consideration for others.

After arriving in Windhoek yesterday morning from Keetmanshoop in //Kharas region where the seventh regional memorial service was held on Wednesday evening, Nujoma’s body was driven through key streets of Windhoek.

Nujoma will lie in state at the Parliament Gardens and be taken to the Independence Stadium for the official memorial service before burial at the Heroes’ Acre tomorrow morning. -Nampa
