RUNDU – Ten employees of the Rundu Town Council, including acting chief executive officer (CEO) Sam Nekaro, are in self-isolation since Friday.
This news agency spoke to Nekaro yesterday, who confirmed that 10 RTC employees are in self-isolation.
“I was with a friend on Sunday who came to my house with his friend from Windhoek who tested positive for Covid-19,” Nekaro said.
The acting CEO said his friend was with the man from Windhoek on Saturday and they then came by his house on Sunday.
Nekaro said as a precautionary measure, he decided to self-isolate and wait for his friend’s results who went for testing.
“If his results come out positive, I will go for testing as well,” he said.
Nekaro said nine other employees in the administration department of the town council are also in self-isolation. Some of the employees were in contact with the man who travelled from Windhoek at an event on Saturday.
According to him, the man travelled with a woman who was accommodated by one of the female employees working at the council.
He added that the town council premises have been disinfected.
Meanwhile, all employees of the Kavango East Regional Council have been asked to work from home.
The regional council’s chief public relations officer, Fransiska Thikerete told Nampa on the same day the council management has been worried that ever since the declaration of the state of emergency on Covid-19 their offices have not been disinfected.
“We also looked at how busy our offices are with for instance the auditorium where various meetings of stakeholders and ministries are accommodated. With the confirmed cases in our region we thought to have the week dedicated to disinfecting the offices,” Thikerete said.
She said the council chamber, auditorium, the government hall and all offices will be disinfected to at least minimise the risk of exposure to the coronavirus. – Nampa
