ONGWEDIVA – Frieda Shiloh Nakanyala, born in Swakopmund, is a qualified counsellor, singer and rising master of ceremonies (MC) whose journey into the entertainment industry is deeply rooted in faith, resilience and purpose.
Known by many simply as Shiloh, she has steadily built a name for herself as a confident and engaging MC at various events.
She told VIBEZ that her passion for MCing began in church, where she was mentored by her spiritual father, Pastor Kalenga (M.G. Petit-Beau). During church events, she would often be assigned the role of MC without prior notice.
“While this initially felt overwhelming, I later realised it was intentional training that taught me how to work under pressure, always remain prepared and trust my ability to lead. This experience inspired me to step into the professional MC space and market myself beyond church platforms, a decision I never regretted,” she stressed.
Shiloh stated that she officially started her MC journey between 2024 and 2025.
“Like many creatives, the beginning came with challenges and valuable lessons. Each event became an opportunity for growth, and every mistake was treated as a learning experience.
Over time, I become well equipped in my craft, although I continue to develop my understanding of cultural diversity to serve different tribes respectfully while recognising their customs and beliefs,” she further said.
Beyond the microphone, Shiloh said she is also committed to social impact.
She runs an initiative called Arise and Sprout – Single Mother Edition, an organisation still in the process of registration.
“The initiative focuses on helping women heal emotionally, raise their children in healthy environments, pursue their careers, discover their purpose and find sustainable ways to provide for their families.
As a single mother, MCing has significantly changed my life,” she added.
Through her talent, Shiloh can provide for her son, take care of herself and build a stable livelihood.
In addition, she said her visibility through MCing and singing has also introduced her to influential people and expanded her network, allowing more people to get to know her as Shiloh. She describes the impact of her talent on her life as positive and life-changing.
According to Shiloh, one of the most rewarding aspects of being an MC is engaging the audience.
“I believe an effective MC must interact with the crowd, maintain high energy levels and encourage participation to make an event enjoyable,” she added.
She also highlights the importance of managing logistics, such as keeping track of time, ensuring speakers are ready and making necessary announcements to keep events organised and professional.
Shiloh encourages young people to remain rooted in God. Despite losing her mother and grandfather, she believes the godly foundation laid in her life helped her navigate difficult times.
“To the youth, serving God is neither boring nor useless, but a path that requires discipline, obedience and love, leading to a fulfilling and flourishing life,” she urged.
