Singapore’s High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa ,Chua Thai Keong, paid a courtesy visit to the executive secretary of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), Paulina Elago, on November 19.
The High Commissioner is based in Pretoria, but is also assigned to Namibia.

Keong, informed Elago that the main purpose of his visit was to acquaint himself with the mechanisms of SACU and its working programmes.
Discussions centred on trade relations and cooperation between SACU and Singapore, which is a member state of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Other member states of ASEAN include Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia.
The discussion on trade issues included clarification on the operations of the Customs Union of SACU and the procedures on importation and movements of good into and within SACU.

Over and above this, the discussions also touched base on pediments issues affecting foreign business persons, such as those relating to VISA requirements when travelling within SACU member states, were also discussed.
The High Commissioner was in Namibia on a working visit to present his credentials to President Hage Geingob on Wednesday at State House.
