WINDHOEK- Standard Bank Namibia has donated more than 50 second-hand computers and new photocopiers to needy schools across the country.
This in-kind donation is additional to about N$4 million which the bank commits to corporate social investment projects each year.
Schools from Oshakati, Ondangwa, Gobabis, Swakopmund, Outapi, Okahandja, Windhoek, Eenhana, Katima Mulilo and Rundu received the computers and photocopiers. “We are pleased to handover these computers and photocopiers, which have a significant impact on improving the educational experience of learners in these needy schools. Education is the key to success, and as a responsible corporate citizen, we want to contribute to this sector’s development,” says Surihe Gaomas-Guchu, Public Relations and Corporate Communications Manager at the bank.
Dr Ndepewa Hamunime, Chairperson of the bank’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Board, says that corporate social responsibility means companies, apart from profit-making, have a greater purpose in society, which is the duty to protect and enhance society in which they operate. Business can play a pivotal role in improving the communities they serve as well as the society at large through corporate social investment programmes.
“I am of the opinion that companies must align their corporate social responsibilities with their corporate goals in order to have a meaningful impact on society. As one of the leading banks in Namibia, it is expected that we as the Standard Bank Namibia Board, management and employees uphold the good name of the bank within our society. It is through corporate social programmes that we remain relevant, close to our people and meaningfully improve our communities,” says Hamunime.
