Stars eye title one match at a time

Log leaders and defending champions African Stars are heading into rounds 23 and 24 of the Namibia Premier Football League determined to take the title race one match at a time as the season approaches its decisive stage.

Stars head coach Agnus Chabala Elemu acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead this weekend, warning that every team in the league is capable of causing an upset.

“This stage of the season will separate teams in the league, from those at the bottom to the middle pack and those at the top,” he said.

“For us at African Stars, we take every match seriously because every team that plays against us brings their A-game. With eight games to go, we cannot afford mistakes at any cost. The boys are ready and we will give our best.”

The defending champions currently sit at the summit of the table with 41 points from 20 matches played.

Close behind are Eeshoke Chula Chula, also on 41 points from 20 games, with only goal difference separating the two sides, Stars holding a slim advantage of two goals.

In third position are Mighty Gunners, who have accumulated 34 points from 19 matches and remain within striking distance as the race for the championship heats up.

On the goal scoring front, the Khomas Nampol’s Ronaldo Vries leads with 10 goals to his name. Hot in pursuit is Stephanus Petrus from FC Ongos with nine goals, with eight goals each are Jessy Nanyemba from Julinho Athletic and Mashiku Muyeka from Mighty Gunners.
