Subeb launches goalkeeper development programme

Former Brave Warriors goalkeeper Arnold Subeb has rolled out a goalkeeper development initiative to nurture young talent across Namibia, with training sessions scheduled for weekends at CBS Talents and Jan Mohr Secondary School.

The programme will cater for goalkeepers from Under-9 to Under-18 level, focusing on structured, age-appropriate training designed to improve both technical and tactical understanding of the position, as well as physical development.

Subeb said the initiative has long been a personal ambition, driven by his desire to give back to the game by helping to shape the next generation of goalkeepers.

“It has been a dream to one day help upcoming young goalkeepers. The purpose of these individual and group sessions is to enhance their technical and tactical knowledge, while also improving their physical aspect of the game,” he said.

He added that the sessions will also serve as a platform to introduce modern goalkeeping methodologies, training ideas, and best practices, ensuring young players are exposed to current trends in the position.

“I aim to support continuous development by investing time in youth goalkeepers, strengthening player development through better coaching, and promoting a unified understanding of game philosophy and training principles,” Subeb explained.

Subeb noted that his observations of the Hopsol League highlighted the need for more structured and principle-based training approaches at the grassroots level.

“Watching the Hopsol League, I saw the need to guide young goalkeepers through a rigorous, age-appropriate and principled-based training approach,” he said.

The weekend sessions are expected to attract aspiring goalkeepers from different academies and schools, providing them with a focused environment to refine their skills under the guidance of an experienced former national team shot stopper.
