Rundu
At around 19h00 on Saturday armed thugs robbed the Protea Supermarket in Rundu’s Kehemu location in the Kavango East Region. However, the owner has opted not to open a case against the robbers.
It’s alleged that eight suspects, three of them armed, entered Protea Supermarket with no masks and forced the owner to give them money at gunpoint.
According to the Acting Regional Crime Coordinator for Kavango East Region, Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo, the owner refused to open a case despite reporting the robbery.
“The owner of the supermarket is not cooperating. Apparently he doesn’t want to open a case but I sent investigators to find out why he does not want to open a case,” Mubebo said.
It was reported that the suspects managed to escape with cash but the amount is not yet known as the owner still has not revealed the figure to the police. The robbers also took two cellphones of which the value is also not known.
The owner of the supermarket, Leitao Naseimento Costa, 55, reported the incident to the police but refused to open a case for the police to start their investigations. The suspects were not yet arrested.
“For us we want the case opened because if we leave it unattended it’s as if we are encouraging the commissioning of such crime; that’s why we want to pursue it,” Mubebo said.
New Era could not get comment from the supermarket owner as to why he doesn’t want a case opened.
