Suspected poacher shot dead

The police in the Khomas region are investigating three cases of murder in which three male persons aged between 24 and 30 were shot dead on Sunday and yesterday.

According to the brief reports shared by the police regional community affairs Silas Shipandeni, the police are investigating the matter in which two suspected poachers were shot at Farm Hoffnung No 66, in the Windhoek District on Sunday around 17h00.

Shipandeni indicated that an unknown man was fatally wounded and died on the spot while the other one was injured on the left thigh.

The confrontation occurred when a 41-year-old man and his workers doing patrol on the farm spotted two strangers and tried to approach the suspects from different directions.

It is alleged that the two strangers started firing at them and the suspect responded by firing back. It is suspected that the strangers were poachers as they were found in possession of hunting equipment (firearm, silencer, ammunition and knives).

On Monday at about 01h30 at Erf 524 Hereford street, Okahandja Park, an unidentified man was shot and killed after he allegedly tried to force entry into someone’s shack.

It is alleged that 38-year-old Inginatius Sikambe, his wife and one-year-old son were woken up by the movements and noise of someone forcing the door of their shack open. Sikambe tried to SMS the neighbour who came to rescue the family.

He found two men standing at the door of Sikambe’s shack. He shot three warning shots in the air, one of the two males ran away and one turned towards him.

One bullet hit the man in the chest and he died on the spot.

Shipandeni said the deceased is not identified yet. He is believed to be in the age range of 24 to 25.

Another matter that has been investigated is that of a murder that occurred on Sunday 23 October 2022 at Solitaire Country Lodge, in the Nauchas policing area.

According to the information provided by the police, two construction workers have been drinking together since Saturday from 16h00 till late.

“Around 00h00 a quarrel erupted between the deceased and suspect, whereby the (now) deceased started punching the suspect. Later the suspect strangled the deceased leading to his death,” said Shipandeni.

The deceased is identified as 30-year-old Richard Rodger Brendell. The suspect has been arrested and will appear in the Rehoboth Magistrate’s Court this week.
