TYO Youth Advisory Council launched

The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) of the Tukwatha Youth Organisation (TYO) was launched in January 2026 to ensure that young people have a real, independent voice in shaping the organisation’s future.

According to the media statement, the Council is made up of young leaders appointed by the organisation’s president to provide honest advice, fresh ideas, and long-term thinking that address the real needs of youth.

Additionally, to guide leadership by sharing youth perspectives, identifying challenges, and proposing solutions that help TYO grow stronger and stay relevant.

The YAC works closely with the Central Executive Committee (CEC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC), but it does not report to them. Its recommendations are shared directly with the president.

“This structure protects the independence of the Council and ensures that its advice remains objective and youth-centred,” read the statement.

Members of the Youth Advisory Council, known as Commissioners, serve a three-year term. They are expected to take their responsibilities seriously, participate actively, and uphold TYO’s values at all times.

The council makes decisions through discussion and agreement whenever possible; when agreement cannot be reached, a simple vote is used. Once a decision is made, all members are expected to publicly support it, even if they held different views during discussions. This promotes unity and professionalism.

A few of the selected commissioners are Ester Shikale, Immanuel Ngendjo, Andreas Marungu, and Given Shiyukifeni; 12 other commissioners bring the total to 16 members.  Commissioners are also encouraged to avoid conflict of interest; if a personal role or outside activity could affect a Council decision, the member must declare it and step aside from that discussion.

TYO is a vibrant community present in all 14 regions, united by a common goal of empowerment and led exclusively by youth leaders.

They envision a future where every young person has the tools and opportunities to thrive.

The organisation was founded by Hendrina Kudhingililwa.

Their diverse programmes encompass education, skill development, and community engagement, fostering a holistic approach to personal and societal growth
