With the Valentine’s Day hangover still simmering and hanging over the horizon, some of Namibia’s well-known musicians released songs on the special day to serenade their fans with softer, affectionate rhythms.
These artists include Jyz Yorke, Yung Kavin and Kidd Mario, who allowed Valentine’s Day to be their muse in the studio.
Rapper, Jedidiah Yorokee, aka Jyz Yorke, will be releasing his latest love song titled ‘Only You [Sada lguidu]’ this week on his YouTube handle, @JyzYorkeManifestKidd.
In an interview with Select Vibez, Yorokee said the sentimental song, which he produced with CJay, is dedicated to anyone who is in love.
“This heartfelt love song promises loyalty and devotion. It expresses deep commitment through lyrics in Khoekhoegowab—the most beautiful language in the world—adding a rich cultural touch to its message of love.” He explained. “The track blends emotion, culture, and melody into a sincere tribute to true love.”
For 2026, Jyz Yorke plans to create more hit songs that celebrate love, language, and identity, leading up to the release of a powerful album and a short film. Through these projects, he aims to promote Gibeon and showcase Nama culture to the world, sharing its beauty, stories, and heritage through music and film.
He further advised Namibian artists and producers to promote their culture and sound to make Namibian music viable for an international audience.
Swakopmund-based artist, Kavin Kavindji, popularly known in the music spheres as Yung Kavin, also released a single on Valentine’s Day titled ‘Gimme some love’.
Kavindji said that the sentimental tune is aimed at bringing loved ones closer during February, which the artist has set aside as the “month of love”. He explained the significance of celebrating Valentine’s Day.
“Celebrating Valentine’s Day is significant because it provides a dedicated annual moment to pause from daily routines and intentionally prioritise emotional connection with loved ones. While often viewed through a romantic lens, modern celebrations emphasise appreciation for all meaningful relationships, including friends, family, and oneself,” said Kavindji.
The love song, which features Mile, was produced by Champion League Djs (Focus). The song is suitable for couples on a great loving day as valentine, this way we dropping on Valentine’s Day.
It can be streamed on Yung Kavin’s YouTube channel – @THEBOSSMAN_96.
Another coastal artist, Kidd Mario, released his latest single, which was produced at Swakopmund-based record label Unique Records. The song features Western MK and is titled ‘Ma te’, a Khoekhoegowab term which means “give me”.
Real name – Romario Haraseb, Kidd Mario Nam told Select Vibez that the song being composed in the Khoekhoegowab and Nyemba vernaculars made it even more special.
“Song is about asking back that first time love because I’ve searched everywhere but I still can’t find the type of love I felt the first time.” “We had to be more creative on this one, we both had our home languages and that diversity mix with the unique click from our language gave us this master piece,” said Haraseb. “The two languages representing our native traditional language and unity in our nation as we grow in the music industry, as we strive for global recognition for Namibia to present local languages to the world.”The song is available on the artist’s YouTube channel: @kiddmarionamibia.
With cupid striking hearts during this month of love, there is a variety of songs to keep love birds’ moods warm as they serenade each other with gentle affection. Songs that also inspire singles to take a chance to enter a quest of endless possibilities of endearment, not yet explored.
