KEETMANSHOOP – Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said national documents are the pride of any nation, and should therefore only be issued to those who are entitled to have them.
This was part of her message to stakeholders during the inauguration of the //Kharas Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security office at the town on Friday.
She commended minister Albert Kawana and his team for ensuring that Namibian citizens have national documents so that they can access services such as education, healthcare and social grants.
“These documents also enable citizens to exercise their constitutional right to partake in the upcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections once they have registered as voters with the Electoral Commission,” she added. The VP said it is against this background that the line ministry is playing its part in bringing the required services to all citizens.
“After Namibia gained her independence, the government committed itself to improve the livelihoods of the Namibian people – and as such, one of the decisions to this commitment was to ensure that services are taken closer to all our people,” said the Swapo-nominated presidential candidate. She stated that the new office demonstrates the commitment and dedication of the Namibian government to ensure that the residents of Keetmanshoop and //Kharas region as a whole receive efficient and timely civil registration and immigration services in a more conducive environment.
NNN, as she is affectionately known, said the government has been delivering through infrastructure development in all corners of Namibia, an approach that ensured equal treatment to all communities of Namibia.
This is for them to appreciate their hard-won independence, and always protect it.
“This building is a positive addition to the asset portfolio of Keetmanshoop and, therefore, a welcomed contribution to the economic development of this beautiful town,”said the politician. She urged the public, as beneficiaries of the structure, to take good care of it, and guard it against vandalism. Governor Aletha Frederick said the event marks not only a significant milestone in regional development, but also a testament to citizens’ commitment to enhancing governance and public service delivery in Namibia.
“As we embark on this new chapter, let us remember that it is not merely an office, but a beacon of hope for our communities – a place where safety meets accessibility, and where every individual can feel empowered by their government,” she noted.
She expressed gratitude towards all who played a part in bringing this project to life – from the architects and builders to the staff, who will now call this space their professional home.
The building was constructed for N$47 million.
It can house 18 offices, with a capacity to accommodate 28 staff members.
