Walter Don wins Titans – Building Nations Award

Home Business Walter Don wins Titans – Building Nations Award

Windhoek

Nam-mic Financial Services Holdings Chief Executive, Walter Don, was recently awarded as the first-ever country winner of the Titans – Building Nations Award. Don won in the financial services sector category while Dr Suresh Kana, from PWC Africa, was the regional winner.

“I am humbled by this prestigious award and would like to thank the shareholders and directors of Nam-mic Financial Services Holdings for allowing me to lead the business the past ten years. It is exciting to constantly look for innovative and creative ways of improving our business to ensure that we create a winning organization,” Don said after receiving the award at a function held in Windhoek last week.

“In Namibia and especially on the African continent we need leaders that are focused, decisive, accountable, ethical and honest,” Don said.

“This award means such a lot to me personally, my staff members and the ultimate shareholders – the workers of our country, as it is testimony that our country’s empowerment initiatives work if managed correctly and responsibly,” Don said.

Don was a human resources practitioner for 17 years before he joined Bank Windhoek as an executive management member responsible for human resources, SME and micro-finance and business development before being appointed as chief executive at Nam-mic Financial Services Holdings.

Nam-mic Financial Services Holdings is a black economic empowerment partner company of Bank Windhoek. Don also serves as a trustee of Nawa Life.

For many years, Titans – Building Nations was a platform where South African organisations showcased their transformational excellence.

In 2014, Analize Wepener, Chief Executive of CEO Holdings looked at the African business landscape and determined that it was time to up the ante and honour the innovators of the African continent. By virtue of the nature of the awards, not anyone can be honoured as a Titan.

“While we may receive thousands of nominations from across the continent, there can only be a select few who stand out above the rest,” said Wepener.

“As we saw from the first year of the awards, our continent is awash with great men and women who selflessly give of themselves for the betterment of our continent. Needless to say, the first year of the awards was an immense success and the future looks bright for the Titans –Building Nations Awards.”
