Woest clinches Ladies Windhoek Open title

The Windhoek Ladies Open, hosted by the Namibia Amateur Ladies Golf Union (NALGU) and proudly sponsored by NamibRe, concluded in style last weekend at the Windhoek Golf Club, with Wilmari Woest emerging the overall champion.

Woest secured victory with a gross score of 164, narrowly edging out Wilna Bredenhann, who finished in second place with a gross score of 166.

The tournament, held from 28 to 29 June, saw 26 participants, and seven promising junior girls who competed alongside seasoned golfers. The ladies teed off in very cold weather on the opening day, adding an extra layer of challenge to the already competitive field.

For the juniors, the competition was divided into two age categories. In the 7 to 12-year group, Skylar-Rose Coetzee claimed victory with a gross score of 46, while the 13-18 category was won by Lebbi Kangandjela with a gross score of 40 points.

NALGU president Suené Venter expressed satisfaction with the turnout and the high level of competition: “We are thrilled with the participation this year, especially with the inclusion of junior players. This event is vital for growing our pool of talented golfers and ensuring a strong future for women’s golf in Namibia.”
