The highly anticipated FNB Women Super League Round 5 will kick off with two exciting fixtures this weekend.

At 15h00, Unam Bokkies FC will square up against African Stars Queens FC at Uukwagula Stadium in Oshakati, while Beauties FC will take on FC Ongos Ladies at Independence Stadium in Windhoek, also at 15h00.

Unam Bokkies FC head coach, Thuba Sibanda, was enthusiastic ahead of the game, acknowledging the challenge that African Stars Queens posed.

“African Stars Queens are a great opponent, and our games against them have always been entertaining, showcasing some excellent football from both sides,” Sibanda remarked. “This is our first game of the year, and we’ve been preparing hard for it. Although we’ve had a short pre-season, we’re excited for the chance to see how we measure up against such a capable opponent this weekend.”

African Stars Queens head coach, Jackson Hango, expressed confidence ahead of the match, saying his team is ready for the challenge. “Unam Bokkies is one of the toughest teams in the league, but we are prepared for them. This match will be crucial in gauging our readiness for the title race, and we’re eager to show what we’re capable of doing,” Hango said.

Meanwhile, Beauties FC head coach, Salome Iyambo, kept a level head as her team prepared for their match against FC Ongos Ladies.

“It’s a league match like any other,” Iyambo explained. “We’ll stick to our game plan, focus on our individual and team strengths, and do our best. We also encourage our fans to come out in full to support us as we take up this challenge.”

In contrast, FC Ongos Ladies head coach, Shama Gure, emphasised the importance of every match for his defending champions. “As the title defenders, every match is critical, and we approach each one with utmost seriousness,” Gure stated. “Facing Beauties will test our consistency and adaptability. They’re a strong team with good structure and discipline, so we know this will be a tough match.”

Gure continued outlining his team’s focus for the game: “Our goal is to execute our game plan, stay disciplined, and capitalize on our strengths. The players are motivated, and our preparations have been solid from a technical perspective. It’s all about taking it one match at a time and continuing to set the standard as the defending champions. While preparations could have been better, we accept the conditions we’ve faced, and we’re looking forward to an exciting encounter.”

As the log stands, Khomas Nampol Ladies are in top form, heading the table with 15 points from five matches played. Beauties FC follow closely behind in second place, with 10 points from four matches, while Arrow Ladies are also on 10 points but have played five matches. The defending champions, FC Ongos Ladies, are in fourth place with eight points from four matches.

At the bottom of the table, Namib Daughters are struggling with just one point from five matches, while Okahandja FC are yet to register a point since the start of the season. – lmupetami@nepc.com.na
