WSL round two returns

WSL round two returns

Round two of the FNB Women’s Super League is back this weekend, promising more
thrilling football action.

The excitement kicks off this afternoon, with a highly-anticipated match between Beauties FC and Okahandja FC at 18h00 at the NFA Technical Stadium. Beauties FC, currently leading the log standings, will be out to maintain their position at the top of the table.

On Saturday, another exciting encounter will likely take place when Unam Bokkies go head-to-head with Julinho Athletic Ladies at 11h00 at the Unam Stadium. Both teams are eager to make their mark as they begin the second leg of the season.

Unam’s Thuba Sibanda shared her thoughts on the upcoming matches, noting that the team is focused on improving their performance after a brief break. “This weekend will see two opening games of the second leg. We are looking at our position on the log, and hoping this weekend sets us off to a good start.

“In previous fixtures, we drew against Julinho and lost to Arrows. We aim to improve on these results. However, we are aware that we are facing two strong opponents, and we respect both teams. We look forward to a great weekend of football,” she added.

On the other hand, Nikie Gaweseb, the Julinho Athletic coach, expressed concern over his team’s lack of match fitness after a two-week break. “I really don’t know what to expect. Most of the players were busy with school work.

Unam is a good team, but I hope some of our national team players, like Asteria Angula and Juliana Blou, can step up to the task.”

As it stands, Beauties FC lead the log standings with 29 points from 11 matches, followed closely by African Stars Queens (28) and FC Ongos Ladies (27).
