A young Namibian golfer’s dream of representing the country on the international stage is within reach, but financial challenges threaten to stand in the way.
Amateur golfer Rudi Junior Auseb has been selected to represent Namibia as part of the national junior golf team at the All-Africa Junior Team Championship, scheduled to take place in Kenya from 22 to 27 March.
The talented youngster will proudly represent Namibia, the Erongo region and his school, Westside High School, at the continental tournament.
Ahead of the championship, the team will participate in a training camp at Omeya Golf Club from 20 to 21 March to complete their final preparations.
Auseb and his teammates are expected to depart on 22 March, travelling from Namibia via Johannesburg before connecting to Kenya.
While the opportunity marks a proud moment for the young golfer and his family, his parents say they are currently facing financial hardship.
They are appealing to the public for assistance to help make the trip possible.
“Both of us, Rudi’s parents, are currently unemployed, and humbly ask for financial assistance to help cover his pocket money and essential travel needs,” said his father in an appeal.
In addition to travel-related expenses, the family said Auseb is also required to have a cellphone during the trip, something he currently does not own.
They say any donation towards purchasing a phone or assisting with travel needs would mean a great deal.
Auseb currently receives a government social grant of N$250 per month, which the family says is not sufficient to cover the additional costs associated with such a significant sporting opportunity.
For the young golfer, the tournament represents more than just a competition.
“This tournament is not only a personal milestone for him but also an opportunity to represent Namibia with pride on the international stage,” his father said.
Those who wish to support Auseb’s journey can contact the Namibian Junior Golf team leader and president Peter Fox at 081 652 0722 for further information or confirmation.
