National Young Women Association (NYWA) will embark on an anti-Baby Dumping campaign and bridge mentorship program to mitigate the current upsurge in baby dumping cases across the country.

The programme is a social behaviour change tool that will be spread across the country in collaboration with Regional Youth Forum Offices. “We will consist of monthly motivational talks from influential women in Namibia young and old, the likes of Dr. Helena Ndume and Johanna Benson,” says Vice President of NYWA, Emilia Shiikwa.

She further informs that the campaign has been made possible by the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the National Youth Council (NYC) and NYWA. The NYC provides NYWA with an office and equipment and they will be funding them with N$7000 per month. “The MOU will now enable the association to function at the level of effectiveness and efficiently creating the desired environment for all the youth to be empowered through this association,” says Shiikwa.

This platform has been created for all young women to come together and deliberate on issues affecting them. NYWA was a result of a resolution passed at the 2010 General Assembly of the National Youth Council.
