Jerimi Zimmer has been appointed the new head coach of Khomas Nampol, taking over the reins from Fortune Eichab as the club looks to steady its campaign in the closing stages of the Namibia Premier Football League season.
Zimmer, who previously coached Civics and Tigers, steps into the role at a crucial time for the police side, with only a handful of matches remaining in the league. His arrival signals the club’s intention to improve performances and climb the standings before the season concludes.
Speaking to New Era, Zimmer acknowledged that he is moving from one difficult assignment to another, but said he thrives under pressure.
“I like the hot seat. Taking over Khomas Nampol at this stage of the season is definitely a challenge, but it is also an opportunity to bring renewed energy and focus to the team,” he said confidently.
Khomas Nampol currently sit in 11th position on the league table with about six matches left to play. According to Zimmer, the immediate objective is to stabilise the team and ensure they finish the campaign on a positive note.
“The immediate priority is to stabilise the team and ensure we finish the season as strongly as possible,” he said.
Zimmer added that the club’s management has given him clear instructions on what is expected of the team in the remaining fixtures.
“The instruction from management is clear: improve the team’s performance and push the club into a more competitive position on the table. There is a strong expectation that we maximise the points available in the remaining matches while also laying a solid foundation for the future,” he stated.
To achieve this, the experienced coach plans to focus on strengthening the team’s structure and mindset while instilling discipline within the squad.
“My turnaround strategy will focus on a few key areas. Firstly, we need to improve our organisation and discipline on the pitch, because those are the fundamentals that allow a team to compete consistently,” he said.
He further emphasised the importance of restoring belief among the players as the season heads into its decisive phase.
“Secondly, we will work on building confidence within the squad and strengthening the unity among the players. At this stage of the season, mentality and belief can make a big difference,” he added.
Zimmer also intends to simplify the team’s tactical approach to ensure players clearly understand their roles and responsibilities during matches.
“We will also focus on simplifying our approach in games, making sure the players clearly understand their roles and responsibilities. The aim is to create a team that is difficult to beat, disciplined in its structure, and capable of taking its chances when they come,” he said.
Despite the limited time remaining in the season, Zimmer remains optimistic that the team can still finish strongly.
“While the time is limited, I believe with commitment from the players and support from the technical team and management, we can still finish the season on a positive note and build momentum for the next campaign,” he said.
Khomas Nampol face a busy schedule in the coming days as they look to climb the table. Their next assignment will be against Okahandja United at the Nau Aib Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 16h00.
They will then take on Bucks Buccaneers at the Independence Stadium on Sunday, with the match set to start at 15h30.
