WINDHOEK
Coastal glamour football club APS Blue Waters sank deeper into the relegation zone after the former MTC Premiership Champions suffered their 4th defeat in the MTC Namibia Premier League this season.
The low flying Flamingoes found themselves at the short end of the stick for the umpteenth time – on this occasion, going down by 3 goals to 1 against the rampant Sport Klub Windhoek outfit, at the latter’s home ground in Windhoek, on Friday evening.
The victory moved the Germans level on 16 points alongside joint log leaders and traditional rivals Ramblers on the MTC Namibia Premiership log standings going into the Christmas break.
Blue Waters are second from the country’s the 12-team elite league and are involved in a dog fight with league rookies Fedics United as both teams struggle to wiggle themselves out of troubled waters.
Both teams are rooted to the basement with 4 points each with the coastal outfit enjoying a slight edge over their fellow relegation candidates, courtesy of a superior goal difference.
Fellow rookies Mighty Gunners tip-toed away from the relegation zone after Dawid Snewe’s men in uniform held the once mighty Civilians to a goalless draw at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium on Saturday.
The result left Civics’ owner-coach Helmuth Sharnowsky fuming and the ageing mentor minced no words as he ripped into his misfiring strikers.
“We are creating lots of chances but have been unable to turn them into goals and something drastically needs to be done, I’m not entirely happy with the strike force.
“Look at my supposedly top strikers, gesturing to William Chilufwya and Geoffrey Roman. They have only scored one goal apiece from a combined 1440 minutes of game time,” said the clearly disappointed Sharnowsky.
“There is no doubt in our minds that we have signed the wrong players at the beginning of the current season and that’s something we really need to rectify, so there will be some new faces coming in with a significant number of the deadwood to be offloaded when the transfer window opens again in January, mark my words,” charged the 59-year old mentor.
Elsewhere, Oshakati City leapfrogged Tigers and Orlando Pirates into 7th place on the log standings following a hard fought 3-2 win over struggling Fedics United at Oshakati’s Independence Stadium on Saturday.
Pirates and Tigers shared the spoils in an uninspiring 1-all stalemate at the SKW Stadium under floodlights on Friday, leaving the Katutura giants on 8 points each from 8 matches.
Team of the moment Ramblers kept their long overdue title hopes alive with a comprehensive 3-nil victory over fellow title-chasers Eleven Arrows at the Ramblers field in Windhoek on Saturday.
Arrows slipped to 4th place on the log standings after the defeat and remained perched on 13 points – 3 behind joint leaders Ramblers and SKW.
Ironically, Ramblers and SKW are the only unbeaten teams in the league campaign this season with both teams having won four-times while the same number of matches failed to produce a result.
Third placed Black Africa and 5th placed Africa Stars are sitting on 13 and 11 points respectively with a game in hand following last week’s widely reported ill-fated midweek match.
