A Chinese family was reportedly robbed at their house along Papageien Street in Windhoek’s Hochland Park residential area on Friday in yet another opportunistic crime, targeting either Chinese expatriates or business people who often lose large amounts of money in the process.

Inspector Slogan Matheus from the Police Public Relations Division informed the media at the weekly crime briefing that four men held the victims at gunpoint and robbed them of an iPhone, three laptops, two iPads and N$45 000 in cash.

It is alleged the suspects gained entry by forcing open a door to the house. The suspects are still at large.
In another armed robbery case, a 27-year-old taxi driver was held at gunpoint and robbed of his vehicle and N$270 along Shanghai Street in the capital on Sunday. It is alleged the driver picked up a male suspect at Katutura Pick n Pay with his destination being “Malaka Draai” in that same area of town.

Halfway there, the suspect pulled out a pistol, pointed it at the taxi driver and demanded cash and his car.
In another incident, three armed male suspects allegedly tied up a female bar employee and two patrons to steal a jackpot gambling machine, alcohol and cash amounting to N$1 894 in Ongwediva in the Oshana Region. The incident took place at Timothy Bar at the Oshiko location on Friday.

It was reported that the suspects entered the bar with a firearm and threatened the victims. They allegedly tied them up and used a bolt-cutter to cut open the padlocks of the gambling machine. The suspects fled in a getaway vehicle.
Meanwhile, two boys aged 16 and 17, were allegedly robbed by three male suspects on Friday in the Academia suburb of Windhoek.
