The Debmarine Premiership League made a return last night, with weekend fixtures lined up for tomorrow and Sunday at various venues across the country set to excite.

Action commenced last night when Tigers played against new boys Khomas Nampol at SKW Stadium. The results of that match were not yet known at the time of going to press.

Tonight, Orlando Pirates will square off against FC Ongos at the same venue, with the match scheduled to start at 19h00.

Meanwhile, at Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo, fans will be treated to a spectacular tie between Life Fighters and Mighty Gunners in a derby match tonight.

Speaking to this publication yesterday, Gunners head coach Herald Hengari said today’s match against Fighters will be a tough encounter as both teams will be fighting for bragging rights. He, however, remained adamant that his side stands a good chance of winning the match.

“We are prepared, and we are looking forward to tomorrow’s (tonight) match against our neighbours. I know it won’t be an easy match against them as they are a good team that also performed well last season. But we, as a team, are equally strong, and we know what we want from this match, so we will just go there with the aim of collecting maximum points. I believe winning this game will be a good start for us,” he added.

Tomorrow, the action will continue as Unam takes on the newly promoted Okakarara Young Warriors, who will be hoping to record their first win in top-flight football. Civics will then face Young Brazilians at SKW Stadium in another exciting match.

In Okahandja, Okahandja United will host the coastal outfit Blue Waters at Nau-aib Stadium as African Stars tackle cattle country outfit Young Africans at Hage Geingob.

On Sunday, Tigers will host Young Brazilians at SKW, while Unam will host Blue Waters at Unam Stadium.

Okahandja United will then go toe-to-toe against Okakarara Young Warriors in the garden town, with defending champions African Stars facing FC Ongos at Hage Geingob Stadium, before Civics wrap up the weekend with an exciting tie against Khomas Nampol.
