ONGWEDIVA – Several lawyers failed to appear in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court yesterday to defend their clients due to the lack of water in Ongwediva since Wednesday.
Most of these lawyers’ reason was that they could not shower. Some of these lawyers’ clients face pre-sentencing – and sadly, their cases had to be postponed.
However, Magistrate Erves Mwilima stated that lack of water is not an excuse because other lawyers from the same town managed to make it to court.
He said if these lawyers do not show up for work today, the court will proceed with the next step towards the pre-sentencing of the offenders.
Spokesperson of town council Jackson Muma said the water will be officially interrupted until today.
He said the reason behind the water crisis is that Namwater pumps that supply water to Ongwediva tripped due to electrical problems.
“Water will only be available from 22h00 to 5h00, and we are urging all residents of Ongwediva to fill up their buckets and empty bottles when the water returns at the hours stated while the issue is being resolved,” said Muma.
