WALVIS BAY – A young woman from Walvis Bay ended her life by drowning at Independence beach early yesterday morning.
The woman, identified as Fabiola Zondjembo, allegedly walked into the ocean at Independence beach naked, and drowned.
Her body was later discovered floating in the water.
Erongo police spokesperson Ileni Shapumba yesterday said they were alerted by Rubicon Security Services’ personnel, who were stationed at the Independence Fuel Station close to the beach.
“The deceased was seen walking naked, past the service station in the direction of the beach. They then followed her along with a taxi from Tutaleni,” Shapumba said.
He said the taxi driver and security personnel opted to stop following her – out of fear – and reported the matter to the Tutaleni police station.
“Police officers from the Kuisebmond and Tutaleni stations arrived at around 01h30 at the scene. They followed her footprints from the tarred road up to the beach and found her body floating close to shore,” Shapumba said.
According to him, no foul play is suspected at this stage, and a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The victim did not leave a suicide note.
Her family was notified about her death.
