We haven’t done an OTU list in a while. Allow me to refresh your memory on what an OTU list is. ‘On The Up’ (OTU) is an official list we publish at least three times a year. The OTU list is an indicator of new talent; new talent that deserves a chance to sit at the same table as the kings and queens of the Namibian entertainment industry.
You do not know these artists – they are underground, but deserve a chance. If you happen to know any of the acts on an OTU list, you are a true lover of quality music, regardless of status. The official OTU list has one criterion, and one criterion only…good music. If the music is good, you will feature on this exclusive list.
So far, we’ve featured Royale, a female Afro-pop/RnB artist from Grootfontein; The Fam, a group from Omaruru; Tukondjeni aka Maniak from the capital; The Smith, an RnB and hip hop head from the capital; Dark VapOur, a singer and rapper from the capital; Yeezir, an RnB singer from Otjiwarongo; Veekay from Grootfontein; and Nally from Oshakati. Some of these acts have since blown up and performed on mega stages.
With that said, our first feature on OTU Vol 3 is the Piano Kings. A duo consisting of Prince T and RK. Together, they are your next-generation piano heads hailing from Swakopmund. Ogust Smiles, a lover of all things arts, recommended the Piano Kings to me, and ever since then, I’ve been hooked on their music.
My second feature today is hip hop/trap head Kvnny K, also from Swakopmund. He has a record out with Flash Ikumkani, a South African who is associated with Emtee.
The Piano Kings and Kvnny K earned their spot on the OTU list because the music is good. The passion is evident, the work rate is visible.
Dear industry insiders, media, promoters and music lovers, take it from someone who has been an industry analyst for over 10 years, Piano Kings and Kvnny K deserve a chance. Listen to them, book them, fan them. I doubt you will regret associating yourself with these acts.
