Body of mentally challenged man found at Onaayamba village

OMUTHIYA – The body of a 34-year-old mentally challenged Angolan national was on Saturday found hanging from a tree at Onaayamba village in Oshikoto’s Okankolo constituency.

The Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator for Oshikoto region, Titus Ekandjo, said the victim is from Cuvelai village in Angola, and was employed as a cattle herder at Omulunga village.

“He was admitted to the Okankolo health centre on Wednesday from where he escaped on Thursday. He had a history of mental problems,” he said.

His employer reported him to the police as a missing person after he was informed that he had escaped from the health centre.

“At about 08h00, his body was found hanging from a tree in the field by a passerby, and it is suspected he committed suicide,” Ekandjo noted.

No suicide note was left, and his next of kin have not yet been located to be informed of his death.

The body was transported to the Onandjokwe State Hospital mortuary for a postmortem, pending police investigations.
