Keetmanshoop polling stations dry out

KEETMANSHOOP – Most polling stations in Keetmanshoop have started emptying on Wednesday after 20h30 as Namibians conclude the 2024 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Most polling stations have been full since Wednesday morning when the polling stations opened. By lunch time when Nampa visited the polling stations, long queues were observed. However, a little after 20h30, queues were drying up.

In an interview with Nampa, Gert February, who was one of the last people in the queue at WK Rover Community Hall polling station, said: “I came from the farm, and the vehicle broke down on my way.

However, I made sure I made it before closing so I cast my vote which is my voice. We really need changes here in Keetmanshoop and we trust that those votes will bring changes.”

Another resident, Natangwe Sakaria indicated that he chose to come to the polling station close to closing time to avoid the heat.

“I chose to come this time, just to avoid standing in the long queue. You can see now the queue is shorter,” he added.

Presiding officer at the ||Gereres informal settlement polling station Kavetjiukua Ndisiro said: “We have seen people started coming after 19h00. As you can see the queue is not long, it is manageable and we still have ballot papers.”
