Namibian music sensation Monica ‘Top Cheri’ Ipinge is preparing to host her
eagerly awaited kids’ concert this November, promising to be the most exciting yet.
Speaking about the journey so far, Top Cheri describes it as “incredible and rewarding,” reflecting on the joy of watching children express themselves on stage and blossom with confidence year after year.
Now a regular event on the family calendar, the kiddies’ concert has grown beyond just a stage show. It’s become a movement that highlights young talent, and this year, it’s stepping up its game.
“We are expanding the scope to include even more interactive activities. Expect everything from educational stalls and fun games to a brand-new talent spotlight, giving standout performers a chance to showcase their skills on bigger platforms,” she revealed.
But the road hasn’t been without its challenges. Organising an event of this scale means juggling schools, performers, logistics, and safety. Yet, thanks to strong teamwork and community spirit, the show has consistently gone off without a hitch.
“The support we’ve received from sponsors, schools, and local businesses has been amazing. Their contributions, whether financial, in-kind, or promotional, are key to making this concert a success,” shared the musician.
Over the years, the concert has uncovered impressive young performers across singing, dancing and acting, some of whom have already made waves beyond the concert stage.
She hopes to introduce mentorship programmes, training workshops, and entertainment industry exposure to help nurture these bright stars long after the curtain falls.
The response from parents and the wider community has been overwhelmingly positive. “It’s become a much-anticipated event every year. Parents love seeing their children perform, and it’s beautiful to see how the community rallies around something so uplifting,” she explained.
Looking ahead, Top Cheri envisions the concert expanding into a national platform,
with the potential for international showcases and long-term growth of young creatives.
“We want it to be recognised as a leading initiative for creative development in children,” said the artist.
When asked to describe this year’s concert in three words, she didn’t hesitate: “Fun. Inspiring. Unforgettable.”
And for Top Cheri, it’s the little moments that make it all worthwhile, like the time a previously shy child stunned the audience with a show-stealing performance.
“That’s why this concert exists, to build confidence and celebrate creativity,” she said.
