The Archery Association of Namibia (AAN) will this weekend host a tournament at the coastal town of Walvis Bay.
More than 10 archers from various clubs are expected to take part.
The competition, which will be staged by Atlantis Archery Club and sanctioned by the AAN, kicks off on Saturday.
It will run throughout the day and wrap up on Sunday.
Jacqueline Coetzee, a representative of the AAN, confirmed the event.
She said it will feature a mix of seasoned competitors and rising talent.
“It’s a spring shootout, even though it doesn’t really feel like spring yet. We expect a good number of archers to turn out, including some of the country’s best, as well as upcoming athletes who will get the opportunity to showcase their skills,” she added.
Atlantis Archery Club’s Engela expressed satisfaction with the interest shown so far.
“We have received about 12 entries and still expect more before Friday. This is a decent number. We are happy it shows how much people are embracing the sport,” she said.
Engela also revealed that proceeds from the tournament will be directed toward supporting a club in need.
“We decided that every cent we make from this event will go to another club that requires bows and arrows for their wheelchair archers. They’ve been wanting to have proper equipment for some time. We intend to use this event to help raise the necessary funds,” she stated.
