Football fans in Karibib can look forward to an action-packed day when the Namibian Golden Oldies host the Legends of Botswana on 1 November 2025. The encounter will see both teams, made up of players aged 60 and above, reignite their friendly rivalry following Namibia’s emphatic 10 – 2 victory in Charles Hill, Botswana, in August 2025.
The event will feature four football matches in total, including clashes between the Navachab over 40 side and Botswana’s over 40s, as well as a game between the Navachab active team and Aweh Aweh. Younger players will also take to the field in a soccer clinic designed for budding talents aged 10 to 15. In addition to football, the day’s programme will include volleyball, pool and netball activities, ensuring a full sporting spectacle for the community.
Golden Oldies representatives John Ramakhutla and Theodor Kambanda encouraged their teammates to keep up their preparation ahead of the showdown. “We want to retain the cup, but most importantly, we want to showcase the spirit of unity and sportsmanship that football brings,” they said.
They added that the upcoming match forms part of the team’s broader preparations for the 4-Nations Cup scheduled for next year, which will feature Angola, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. “We’re not slowing down, we’re already training with the bigger tournament in mind,” they shared.
Among the standout players is 70 year-old Daniel Vries, who remains a key figure on the pitch, impressing teammates and opponents alike with his composure and ball control.
