CTC wraps up with club championships

The Central Tennis Club (CTC) hosted its annual Club championships over the weekend, featuring 24 participants in a spirited conclusion to the 2025 tennis calendar.

Players competed in men’s and ladies’ singles, doubles and mixed doubles, with a strong turnout and a high level of competition.

As the club’s year-ending event, winners were added to the club’s honour roll, making each match fiercely contested.

In the men’s singles, Kendall Swartz won the title as club champion after a hard-fought victory over Mickey Alemu.

Laruschka Kruger won the ladies’ singles crown, defeating Melissa Khupe in the final.

The ladies’ doubles were claimed by Amanda van Dyk and Laruschka Kruger, while Swartz partnered with Samson Kaulinge to take the men’s doubles title.

Van Dyk continued her dominance in mixed doubles, teaming up with Alemu for yet another victory.

In the backdraw competitions, Fred Odiawo defeated Lance Kahindi to win the men’s singles, while Mohamed Koroma and Vekondja Kuzee claimed the backdraw doubles title over Likius Kameeta and McCartney Moller.

CTC chairman and Namibia Tennis Association vice president Vekondja Kuzee said the event showcased the club’s strong sense of community and passion for the sport. “The tennis community, as small as it is, ensured that the courts were occupied and that tennis was played. For a club that is 111 years old, we know very well how to host events of this nature,” Kuzee said.

He added that the tournament was self-funded by the club and its players.

He stated that they are looking for sponsors and partners for future events.

“CTC remains open to everyone looking to get into this wonderful sport, regardless of colour, creed, background or ability. Tennis is for everyone and we encourage Namibians to give it a try,” said Kuzee.

The club and its players now look forward to competing at the Swakopmund Open in December before activities resume in 2026.
