The 2025 MTC Volleyball National League (VNL) season ended on a high note in Swakopmund over the weekend.
Rivals Volleyball Club and Namibian Correctional Service (NCS) clinched the women’s and men’s titles, respectively, after a season of intense competition and memorable performances.
Rivals made history by going unbeaten throughout the season to secure the women’s championship.
NCS claimed the men’s crown after a dominant campaign that saw them lose only one match, their first and only defeat coming against Nampol Volleyball Club during the final weekend.
In the women’s division, Namibian Defence Force (NDF) Phoenixes finished runners-up, followed by Nampol in third place.
On the men’s side, NDF Raptors took second, with Nampol once again finishing third.
League director Albert Khevare described the finals as a great finish, praising the organisation and level of play.
“We enjoyed the games, and we’re very happy with how everything played out,” he said.
The top-performing teams were handsomely rewarded for their efforts – thanks to MTC’s continued investment in the sport.
Champions walked away with gold medals, a N$40 000 cash prize, N$5 000 airtime and goodies from MTC.
Runners-up received silver medals, a N$30 000 cash prize, N$3 000 airtime and MTC goodies.
Third-place winners earned bronze medals, a N$10 000 cash prize, N$2 000 airtime and additional MTC merchandise.
Khevare emphasised that MTC’s increased support, raising its annual sponsorship from N$1 million to N$1.3 million, plays a vital role in strengthening the league’s growth and professionalism.
The additional funding will help enhance event logistics, administration and overall league management, contributing to a more competitive and sustainable national competition.
“The new teams coming in are very competitive and will definitely bring more fireworks,” he noted, referring to recently promoted teams.
The relegation fight also provided gripping drama.
Calvary Eagles from Rundu mounted a stunning comeback.
They defeated Keetmanshoop Correctional Service and Mighty Gunners to finish on 14 points, overtaking both teams which were relegated.
