Khomas Nampol aim to bounce back strong in double-header

After a challenging start to their Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign, Khomas Nampol are gearing up for a crucial weekend that will see them face both Rundu Chiefs and Julinho Sporting in round two and three of the competition.

The law enforcement outfit suffered a narrow 0–1 defeat to defending champions African Stars last Sunday. However, head coach Fortune Eichab remains upbeat, confident that his side will respond positively in their upcoming fixtures.

Eichab said the team has spent the week analysing their opening performance and working to fix mistakes while building on what went right.

“From last weekend, we’ve been working very hard to improve on the things we did well.

We want to play a little faster this time to unlock our goal-scoring potential in the final third.

Against Stars, we couldn’t penetrate effectively, but that’s something we’ve been focusing on in training,” he said.

The coach acknowledged that the opening matches are often the toughest, as players settle into rhythm and match fitness.  “It’s always difficult to play the first match of the season, and playing Julinho in Windhoek will also be a challenge because they are a team that never makes it easy for anyone,” he said.

Eichab further provided an update on his squad’s fitness, revealing that while majority of players are in good shape, a few are still nursing injuries.

“Fitness-wise, we are good to go. Some players are still recovering. It’s still early days, and we will see how the week goes before deciding who is ready for selection,” he noted. The coach emphasised that the team’s motivation remains high, with players determined to reward their supporters with strong performances. “We hope to get something positive for our fans this weekend, as well as for everyone involved in the Nampol family,” Eichab added.

Khomas Nampol’s back-to-back fixtures against Rundu Chiefs and Julinho Sporting present an opportunity to collect valuable points early in the campaign and set the tone for the rest of the season.
