EPAKO – Gobabis-based Young African FC will play all their remaining Premier League fixtures in Windhoek, as Legare Stadium is not yet ready to host matches.
The stadium, traditionally the home ground for the team affectionately known as Yangile, has forced the club to honour all 12 of its first matches of the season outside Gobabis, in line with Namibia Football Association (NFA) regulations. Maleagi Ngarizemo, the club chairperson, expressed regret over the situation.
“It is with deep regret to inform our amazing fans in Gobabis and the entire Omaheke region that you will not be able to watch your team play at home. We are truly sorry for this disappointment, as you deserve to see your club at Legare Stadium, and we share in your frustration,” Ngarizemo said.
He encouraged supporters to continue rallying behind the team, promising to bring silverware home this season. Ngarizemo also confirmed that training will resume this week in the capital, with the venue to be announced soon.
The chairperson further called on new players wishing to join Young African FC to contact 081 144 880, stating that, “We welcome talent and commitment.”
Currently, Young African FC sits ninth on the local league log with 16 points from 12 games, eight points behind log leaders Mighty Gunners, who have 24 points from 13 matches.
“We still have an outstanding match against African Stars, a game against Khomas Nampol, and the abandoned match against Okahandja United,” Ngarizemo said. He added that the team awaits the league’s decision on these fixtures before heading into the second round.
“The league is wide open; it’s still early days, and anything is possible,” he said. Ngarizemo urged fans to fill the stands and lift the team, “We believe, we fight, and we conquer.”
