Kunene Football League resumes this weekend

The Kunene Regional Football Association (KUFNA) is set to resume its activities after a six-month break. As one of Namibia’s best-managed leagues, the Northwest Division League (NWDL), set to kick off this weekend.

With the registration period for second players set to close on 05 February, all teams are eager to strengthen their squads for the 2025-2026 season, as they prepare to compete for a coveted promotional spot in the league. KUFNA chairperson Marshall Gomeb confirmed the league’s resumption to Nampa on Tuesday, stating that the management is ready to commence the league.

“I can confirm that after a long wait, we are ready to start the league. We aim to continue from where we left off by providing timely information to our stakeholders and ensuring that all venues meet the required standards,” he said.

According to Gomeb, this season will bring new opportunities, and all teams have already received their travel allowances and other essential items. With the return of the Outjo Football Academy (OFA), the former KUFNA champions, after a brief period in the top division, the league is set for more competitive matches, as familiar teams like Okarindi Komutati, Robber Chanties, and Kunene Nampol prepare for the challenges ahead.

Rounds one and two will feature 12 matches taking place in Outjo, Opuwo, Kamanjab, and Khorixas.

On Saturday afternoon, Sixty Eleven will host !Ugab in an all-Outjo derby, followed by newcomers Aweh United facing Young Eagles. Epupa Zebra Stars will rely on their home advantage as they take on Etosha United at Newman Katuta Stadium in Opuwo, while Okarindi Komutati will compete against Kunene NamPol in an exciting match at Opuwo. 

Green Dangers will play at home in Kamanjab, welcoming league returnee Outjo Football Academy, while Robber Chanties will entertain another returning team, Pubs FC, who had a brief stint in the third division after struggling two seasons ago. Sunday will see Aweh United facing !Ugab in Outjo, Sixty Eleven will host Young Eagles, Epupa Zebra Stars will challenge Kunene Nampol, and Okarindi Komutati will play against Etosha United, while Robber Chanties will meet OFA in a challenging match. 

Green Dangers will conclude the weekend’s matches against Pubs FC in Kamanjab. –Nampa
