OKAHAO – Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) and the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA Fund) on Friday donated eight classrooms to Shaanika Nashilongo Secondary School in the Okahao constituency of the Omusati region.
The infrastructure, donated through the MTC Rural Schools Project, is valued at over N$2 million.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, MTC’s Chief Brand, Marketing, Communications and Sustainability Officer, Tim Ekandjo, said the Rural Schools Project has invested a total of N$18 million and constructed 61 classrooms, one computer laboratory, one ablution facility and seven storerooms across the country’s 14 regions.
“This year, we will go to Erongo region, where we will assist three schools, which will now complete coverage of all 14 regions. After that, we will go to the worst-affected regions in need of classrooms and facilities,” he said.
MVA Fund Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, John Haufiku, said that investing in rural schools is not charity, but a strategic investment in the future of the nation.
“When MTC invited the Fund to join hands through the Rural Schools Project, it aligned seamlessly with our vision and our mandate. Development at scale is never achieved in isolation; it is achieved when responsible institutions act together with purpose and foresight,” he said.
Delivering a speech on behalf of Omusati Governor Immanuel Shikongo, Okahao councillor Leonard Shikulo said the classrooms are not merely walls and roofs, but sanctuaries of knowledge, hope and opportunity.
“By building these classrooms, you have expanded the learning environment, reduced overcrowding and created opportunities for our learners to thrive. This is true partnership in national development, where government, business and community walk hand in hand to uplift the Namibian child,” he said.
School board chairperson Michael Simeon applauded MTC and the MVA Fund for their donation, generosity and commitment to education.
“These classrooms will improve the teaching and learning environment for our children,” he said. – Nampa
