OTJOMBINDE – Confidence is high in the Otjombinde camp ahead of this week’s national schools’ athletics championships in Windhoek, with Tallismanus Zonal Athletics coordinator Andreas Andreas backing his athletes to return home with medals.

The zone will be represented by four athletes at the country’s premier school’s athletics event, and according to Andreas, preparations have been thorough, with the team eager to make its mark on the national stage.

“I am confident our athletes will come back home with medals. We are traditionally strong in middle-distance races, and that is a reputation we have carried for many years,” he said.

Andreas added that the athletes are in peak condition and have shown determination in training, which gives him belief in their chances of success. He also called on the Otjombinde community to support the team as they represent the constituency.

“This is your team. Be proud of them and support them in any way possible. They are young, and that encouragement can make a big difference,” he urged.

Among the athletes is 13-year-old Rikambura Karumendu, who will compete in the 800m and 1200m events. She expressed confidence ahead of the championships, citing her strong performance at the recent regional competition in Gobabis as motivation.

“I have trained well, and I’m ready. Gobabis was a good test, and now I’m looking forward to competing in Windhoek,” she said.

Seventeen-year-old long-distance runner Timmy Doeseb, who will compete in the 3000m, has set his sights firmly on gold.

“I am in top shape and performed well at regionals. My goal is to win gold at nationals, and I believe it is achievable,” he said.

Another athlete, Tueuvaza Anab, is aiming to continue his winning streak after claiming top honours at both zonal and regional levels.

“I want to maintain my form and do well again at nationals,” he said.
