Namibia’s top show-jumping talent will take centre stage when the FEI World Jumping Challenge Leg 1 gets underway from 29 to 31 May at the Reiterverein Swakopmund (RVS) grounds.
The event forms part of the global FEI World Jumping Challenge, a competition designed to develop the sport in emerging nations, while giving riders a rare opportunity to compete under internationally benchmarked conditions without leaving their home countries.
For local riders, the challenge represents more than just a competition; it is a vital pathway to measuring their abilities against global standards. Courses are set by internationally accredited designers, ensuring that Namibian competitors face the same technical demands as their counterparts abroad. The event is open to all registered riders under the Namibia Equestrian Federation (Namef), who will compete alongside their own horses in a test of skill, precision and partnership. Strong participation is expected, with some of the country’s leading riders set to showcase their talent. Hosted by Reiterverein Swakopmund under the leadership of Silvia Kleyenstüber and her organising team, the three-day competition will follow a structured format.
Proceedings begin on Friday with the Welcome Stakes, serving as a warm-up round, before the official FEI Leg 1 competition takes place on Saturday. The event concludes on Sunday with the final competition, where riders will look to cement their standings. In a statement, Namef said that, beyond the riders, the event brings together a full support structure, including judges, course officials, ground staff, and stabling coordinators, all working to ensure that international-level standards are upheld.
Importantly, the FEI World Jumping Challenge remains one of the few platforms in Namibia where riders can directly compare their performances with international competitors, opening doors to potential qualification for higher-level global events.
