Head of Digital Transformation, Innovation and Smart Partnerships at MTC Nawa Likando has been recognised among the continent’s 50 digital champions.

This marks a significant milestone in Namibia’s growing influence in Africa’s digital transformation.

The recognition was conferred by the Africa Digital Festival (ADF). ADF is a leading platform that convenes policymakers, technology leaders, investors and innovators to shape Africa’s digital economy and future.

Likando said that Africa stands at a pivotal moment where digital infrastructure, innovation and strategic partnerships will define the next phase of economic growth.

“I remain committed to contributing to this journey, both locally and across the continent,” he said. Likando’s inclusion in the prestigious cohort highlights his role in advancing Namibia’s digital transformation agenda through initiatives spanning fintech, digital identity systems, application programming interface (API) platforms, and smart infrastructure.

His work reflects a broader shift toward innovation driven development in Namibia. It positions the country as an emerging player within Africa’s rapidly evolving technology landscape.

The 50 Digital Champions of Africa initiative is a flagship recognition programme linked to ADF, aimed at identifying and celebrating individuals who are driving impactful and scalable digital transformation across the continent.

Honourees are selected based on demonstrated leadership, the successful implementation of digital solutions, and their contribution to strengthening national and regional innovation ecosystems.

The event is hosted annually in Accra, Ghana. The Africa Digital Festival has grown into a high-level forum focused on key issues such as digital transformation, startup ecosystems, policy and regulation, as well as infrastructure development and investment opportunities within Africa’s digital sector.

The festival has evolved beyond a conventional conference into a strategic continental platform for thought leadership, partnership building, and policy influence over time.

It plays a crucial role in connecting innovation ecosystems across Africa, showcasing high-impact digital solutions and facilitating collaboration between governments, corporates, development finance institutions and global technology players.

Likando’s recognition elevates the country’s digital transformation narrative onto a continental stage. It enhances visibility for Namibian led innovation and creates pathways for increased investment, partnerships and knowledge exchange that are critical for sustained growth in the sector.

The recognition also reflects the growing importance of digital leadership in shaping Africa’s economic future, as countries increasingly prioritise technology-driven solutions to address development challenges and improve service delivery.
