Medical student George Illarius Siyepo, who is on attachment at the Rundu State Hospital, and his organization ‘The Youth Environment’ organised a clean-up campaign in Sauyemwa in Rundu on Saturday.
They picked up papers, tins, bottles and other litter from Total Sauyemwa Service Station all the way to where the tarred road ends next to Sauyemwa Cemetery.
Siyepo who is originally from Rundu is a medical student at The Peoples Friendship University in Russia and is a health blogger on Pomdigitall.com
“I’m a health blogger. I mostly blog about health issues and then I was approached by Jonas Kalenga who has an interest in economics to start an organization that advocates for environmental issues and health. Kalenga saw my ideas that I blog about and then he reached out to me and said if I can blog about health then he can talk about economic issues, since he’s more in that area. So we came up with something and roped in a friend, Kanyanga Andreas, and together we came up with the youth environment organization,” Siyepo told New Era.
According to Siyepo they have a lot of activities that they want to do as an NGO and decided to try organising a small clean-up campaign.
“We started at home in Rundu’s Sauyemwa. In this case we cleaned the main street,” he explained.
This clean-up had the full blessing of the community and also got support from learners of Sauyemwa Combined School who also assisted in the clean-up.
Sauyemwa’s Kasi Car Wash provided refreshments to participants.
