Maltahöhe
Hardap Governor Esme Isaak on Tuesday appealed to youth at Maltahöhe to “get up and do something productive for yourselves”, and desist from living off the toil and sweat of elderly citizens.
Speaking at a ceremony to hand over blankets to senior citizens, she urged youth to be ‘go-getters’ rather than sit at home idling and waiting to be fed from the little their elders get from the government.
She reminded the youth that most of the problems being experienced by the elderly in most communities are mostly linked to them.
“The elderly members of our community are subjected to miseries that are not of their own design,” she stressed.
Isaak emphasised that senior citizens have done their part in nurturing and caring for the youth and by doing so denied themselves their entitlements just to make sure there was food on the table for their children and it is now time for the youth to stop taking and start giving back.
“Stop idling on the pockets of your elders, stop leaving your children with your elders,” she implored the youth.
She said the youth must get up and grab the many opportunities available, stressing that there are opportunities out there and it is up to the youth to reach out to the right offices and people in order to access these benefits.
The former mayor accused the youth of sitting idle, but then point fingers to the government that nothing is being done for them.
Isaak urged the youth to be part and parcel of Namibia’s development by participating in economic activities to improve their standards of living as individuals and their communities at large.
