SOUTH AFRICA – Since Idols South Africa season 10 started a few months ago, most music lovers around Africa have been glued to their TV’s. The past weekend has seen the crowning of Vincent Bones as the overall winner after some fierce competition over the past months.
He drives off in style in his brand-new Ford Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost Titanium, fitted with the EcoBoost engine that has won the International Engine of the Year award an unprecedented three times in a row.
Bones’ attractive new set of wheels is bound to bring him loads of attention, too, finished as it is in the range-topping Titanium trim. He’ll be able to belt out his latest tunes to a six-speaker, MP3-compatible audio system with steering wheel-mounted controls, while SYNC, Ford’s in-car entertainment system featuring a 3.5-inch screen, Bluetooth handsfree phone operation, voice control and a USB connector with iPod functionality, will ensure he’s entertained without needing to take his eyes off the road.
SYNC will also double as his on-the-go personal assistant, allowing Bones to make calls using simple voice commands. Bones is already well accustomed to the Fiesta: the sporty hatchback also features in the music video to his first single, “Let Me Love You”.
Bones, 29, from Pietermaritzburg is a church worship leader whose life story – he became a street child at 12 after his mother and uncle passed away – has touched a legion of Idols fans. He’s now nabbed the ultimate prize after a two-hour Idols finale held at the Big Top Arena at Carnival City, during which Bongi Silinda, 24, from Nelspruit was announced as the runner-up.
“To say that this is a dream come true doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel at this moment. Thanks to all those who supported me on this incredible journey. I can’t wait to continue the ride in my new Fiesta,” said Bones after his win.
The 2014 marks Ford’s fifth year as a major sponsor of Idols South Africa.
“Idols has again given us a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Fiesta and its award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine to a key segment of our society,” said Mark Kaufman, the vice president for marketing, sales and service, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa. “We congratulate Vincent on a fantastic achievement and have no doubt that he will be an excellent ambassador for us,” he said.
