ONGWEDIVA – We are now about a week to month end, and just a number of days away to the December rush. In the past weeks we gave you tips on how to ensure that your vehicle is ready for the “holiday run”.
We looked at issues around tyre-safety, whether your licence is paid up at NaTIS and all your traffic fines with the appropriate authorities. We also gave you tips about driving in the rain.
This week, we will give you a checklist of about 12 items that must be in your boot or behind your seat if you drive a bakkie. These are very important tools, which will help you and other fellow motorists when you encounter a breakdown or stop at an accident scene to give help.
CHECKLIST
- A jack (Make sure it is working)
- A tow rope or a tow bar
- A wheel spanner for both your car and your trailer. And if you have lock nuts, have the key handy
- A spare tyre for your car and trailer. The spare tyre should be correctly inflated.
- A foot/hand pump for flat tyres
- A canister of Emergency Tyre Weld/Tyre Inflator
- A torch and an extra set of batteries
- A warning triangle so that you can warn oncoming vehicles of your position
- A First Aid Kit and an Emergency Roadside Kit
- A fire extinguisher for the car
- A visibility vest so that you are clearly visible should you be standing on the side of the road
- A tool box so that you have the necessary tools to help in an emergency or should you have a small emergency
